Why the Devil Hopes You Won’t Pray (and Why You Absolutely Should)

Let’s not sugarcoat it. Life is loud. Life is chaotic. And honestly? Life can be exhausting. You wake up to a phone buzzing, deadlines knocking, social media screaming, and emotions doing backflips. And somewhere between that whirlwind, someone whispers, “You should pray.”

And you think, “Yeah... later.”
Or worse, “I’m not really feeling it right now.”

But let’s pause right there.

Here’s the tea.

You know who really wants you to keep delaying prayer?

The devil.
Yep. Him. The enemy of your soul.

Now, before you roll your eyes and swipe away, hear me out. This isn’t a spooky story. It’s spiritual strategy.

1. The devil knows how great your spiritual inheritance is.

You? You’re not just some average person trying to "be a better human." You're a son. You're a daughter. Of the King.
Heaven has receipts on you. You're already seated with Christ in heavenly places (Eph. 2:6). But guess who doesn’t want you to realize that?

Exactly.

Because if you knew what God has truly given you—peace that makes no sense, wisdom that confuses the wise, joy that defies depression, and authority to trample on snakes and scorpions (Luke 10:19)—you’d stop living like a spiritual orphan. You’d pray like a royal.

2. The devil knows how powerful prayer is.

Prayer isn’t just some meditative self-help technique or a spiritual “Dear diary.”
It’s war. It’s resistance. It’s alignment with the will of God.

James 5:16 says the prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective. Not weak. Not optional. Powerful.

Every “Amen” backed by faith shakes spiritual kingdoms. Every whispered cry in the dark is an arrow in the enemy’s camp.

You ever wondered why every time you plan to pray, your phone rings, your mind wanders, or you suddenly remember that one email you were supposed to reply to? That’s not coincidence, my guy. That’s warfare.

3. The devil knows he’s powerless when you trust scripture—even when it doesn’t feel like it.

Listen. Feelings lie. All the time.

Your feelings will say,

  • “I don’t feel like God hears me.”
  • “I’m not worthy to pray right now.”
  • “I don’t know what to say.”

But Scripture says:

  • “The Lord is near to all who call on him” (Ps. 145:18).
  • “We can approach God’s throne of grace with confidence” (Heb. 4:16).
  • “The Spirit helps us in our weakness... and intercedes for us” (Rom. 8:26).

When you choose to trust what God says over what you feel, you slam the door in the devil’s face. And believe me—he hates that.

So here’s the truth:

If I were the devil, I wouldn’t want you to pray either.
Because prayer repositions you.
Prayer strengthens your core.
Prayer makes you dangerous.

It’s swimming against the tide of a world that glorifies self-dependence and instant gratification.
But prayer anchors you in the truth. It connects you to your Source. It reminds you that you're not fighting alone.

So, my friend?

Just pray.

Not because it’s trendy.
Not because it feels magical every time.
But because it’s oxygen to your spirit.

Even when it’s dry. Even when your voice cracks. Even when your eyes are tired.

Pray anyway.

Because one day, you’ll look back and say:
“Ah, now I see why the devil didn’t want me to pray.”
And you’ll smile.
Because you did anyway.

Let’s not wait for perfect conditions. Don’t wait for the "vibe" to be right.
Don’t wait to feel it.

Pray.
